MODERN MONI APPROVED SNACKS

Snacking is a wonderful, but sometimes dangerous thing if we don’t watch our intake. Trust me, as a busy mom who is always in the car, I’m the first one to admit that I can get carried away with snacking if I don’t plan ahead. Keeping my fridge and pantry stocked with all the good stuff aka nutritious foods that will get you to your next meal time without filling you up!

I find that if I am snacking on the right things, I feel more in tune with my body, and less inclined to over-indulge when it comes to meals. With that said, here’s a little list of my favorite healthy on-the-go snacks I keep readily available.

red peppers and hummus

First off, red bell peppers are EXTREMELY healthy. Although all bell peppers are nutritious, red bell peppers are highest in antioxidants and rich in vitamin C. Pairing it with a protein like hummus adds a healthy and flavorful dip that is high fiber. One of the benefits of hummus is that it can help keep your digestive tract regular. Who doesn’t want that?

almond milk yogurt and berries

I have a major sensitivity to dairy, otherwise my almond milk yogurt would definitely be greek yogurt! So for all my friends sensitive to dairy, almond milk yogurt is a wonderful alternative. Kite Hill is one of my favorite brands. Like almonds, almond milk yogurt is a rich source of healthy fats, antioxidants, protein, fiber, calcium, vitamin C and E! Mixed with berries, which is one of the best sources of antioxidants around, this snack is a winner in my book! You'll get a good variety of antioxidants if you add a mixture of different-colored berries!

avocado pudding

I know this sounds SUPER WEIRD, but its soooo yummy. I blend one whole small to medium sized avocado with a large teaspoon of Manuka honey and blend it! It turns into a whipped-frothy-like pudding that is seriously SOOO good, almost like a dessert. Almost ;)

sea salt almonds

Nuts are an ideal nutritious snack! They contain a perfect balance of healthy fat, protein, and fiber. Just make sure to not go too overboard and eat an entire container. I always throw a healthy handful of my almonds into a ziplock baggy to-go in order to keep my snacking on track. Bonus is, this snack doesn’t require refrigeration, so they are THE PERFECT on-the-go snack.

canned tuna on crackers

I love tuna!!! It’s not only my go to quick protein to throw on top of a salad, but it is a wonderful snack that is hearty and filling. I usually mix tuna from a can with a little bit of olive oil and vinegar, a touch of salt and pepper and scoop it with sweet potato chips. Mmmmmmm…..!!!!!!!! Can you hear my enthusiasm? Seriously one of my faves.

dry seaweed

If you aren’t familiar with dry seaweed or nori as I grew up calling it, don’t knock it until you try it! This is a wonderful option for those days you are craving a salty and crunchy snack. It’s packed with tons of vitamins, minerals, and fiber that protects your gut health!

avocado with vinegar and oil

I slice an avocado in half long ways, and remove the pit. Use the avocado as a boat and drizzle olive oil, balsamic vinegar, salt and pepper to taste. I use a spoon to scoop out the avocado almost as you would a kiwi. Super rich in “good for you” monounsaturated fatty acids, and high in calories that easily hold me over until my next meal.
